Who can apply for CTET? The official CTET bulletin does not reduce eligibility to one universal “45% or 50%” rule. A candidate must possess the minimum teacher-education qualification notified by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and must also meet the recruitment rules of the appropriate government, KVS, NVS or the school’s appointing authority.
Choose Paper I if you intend to become a teacher for Classes I to V. Your academic and recognised elementary teacher-education qualification must satisfy the latest NCTE regulations and the rules of the authority that will recruit you.
Choose Paper II if you intend to become a teacher for Classes VI to VIII. The applicable graduation and teacher-education combination must meet current NCTE minimum qualifications and the relevant recruitment rules.

The Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi on behalf of the Ministry of Education. It is one of the eligibility criteria used for teacher recruitment in Central Government schools such as KVS and NVS, schools in specified Union Territories and CBSE-affiliated schools covered by the applicable rules. State and private-school acceptance depends on the relevant authority’s policy, so candidates should always read the specific recruitment notice.

Paper II (Classes VI–VIII): Child Development & Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, and Mathematics & Science OR Social Studies/Social Science (per the candidate's chosen subject) — 150 questions, 150 marks. Both papers are of 2.5 hours duration with no negative marking.
CTET previous year question papers are most useful when you treat them as diagnostic tests, not just PDFs to read. They show how pedagogy is applied, how comprehension questions are framed and which NCERT-linked concepts recur. Start with one recent paper without a timer, analyse every wrong answer, and then move to full 150-minute attempts.
Record scores separately for Child Development & Pedagogy, both languages and each subject section. Section-level tracking reveals whether the issue is concept knowledge, pedagogy or time management.
First aim for accuracy. Then practise a complete 150-question paper in 150 minutes. Reserve the final minutes to review marked questions because CTET has no negative marking.
Tag every error to a syllabus topic and revise it from authentic NCTE-recommended material and NCERT books. Paper I content relates to Classes I–V; Paper II subject content relates to Classes VI–VIII, though difficulty linkages can be higher.
