The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. It is the world’s largest open schooling system, offering Secondary (Class 10) and Senior Secondary (Class 12) education through flexible, open and distance learning. Students who cannot attend regular school — due to work, sports, health, or any other reason — can study at their own pace and appear for NIOS public examinations in April and October every year.
