About Navodaya Vidyalaya Examination (JNVST)

Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya is a network of centrally-run schools spread across India, managed by the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) under the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The schools exist to provide quality, free residential education to talented students — especially those from rural backgrounds. Admission to Class 6 is done through the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Selection Test (JNVST), an offline objective exam.

This section is meant to assess your general mental functioning. The questions are based on figures and diagrams only.

Arithmetic Test

This section tests your basic mathematical abilities. The JNVST Class 6 paper is based on the topics given below.

Eligibility & Reservation in Navodaya Vidyalaya

For All Candidates

  • Age group of 10 to 12 years (as per NVS norms).
  • Must have studied Classes 3rd, 4th and 5th — one full academic session in each.
  • Only one attempt is permitted in the selection test, under any circumstances.

For Rural Candidates

  • Around 75% of seats in every Navodaya Vidyalaya are reserved for rural candidates of the district.
  • Must complete Class 5 in a rural area of the same district where admission is sought.
  • NIOS students must provide their rural status certificate at the time of application.

Reservation of Seats

Once the seats reserved for rural-area candidates are filled, the remaining seats are opened to other students on the basis of merit. Reservations for SC, ST, OBC and EWS categories are applied as per the Government of India norms.
