शरीर द्रव तथा परिसंचरण

In Class 11 Biology, "Body Fluids and Circulation" provides an authoritative, curriculum-verified master resource aligned with the 2026–27 NCERT syllabus.

❤️ Have You Ever Wondered?

How does your fist-sized heart beat 100,000 times a day, pumping 7,000 liters of blood through 100,000 kilometers of blood vessels without ever taking a single second of vacation for 80 years? The cardiac conduction system and double circulation power the human engine.

यह अध्याय क्यों महत्वपूर्ण है

In Class 11 Biology, "Body Fluids and Circulation" provides an authoritative, curriculum-verified master resource aligned with the 2026–27 NCERT syllabus.

  • Explain Blood Grouping: ABO system (antigens, antibodies, Rh incompatibility/Erythroblastosis foetalis).
  • Explain Blood Clotting cascade: Thromboplastin, Prothrombinase, Thrombin, Fibrin meshwork.
  • Describe the Human Cardiac Conduction System: SA Node ('Pacemaker', $72\text{ bpm}$), AV Node, Bundle of His, Purkinje fibers.
  • Analyze the Cardiac Cycle: Atrial systole, Ventricular systole, Joint diastole, and Cardiac Output ($CO = SV \times HR = 70\text{ mL} \times 72 \approx 5000\text{ mL/min}$).
  • Interpret Electrocardiogram (ECG): P wave (atrial depolarization), QRS complex (ventricular depolarization), T wave (ventricular repolarization); and circulatory disorders.

सम्पूर्ण सैद्धांतिक एवं वैचारिक अध्ययन

1. Formed Elements & Rh Incompatibility

  • RBCs (Erythrocytes): Biconcave, enucleated, $120\text{ days}$ lifespan, spleen is graveyard!
  • WBCs: Neutrophils ($60-65\%$, phagocytes), Eosinophils ($2-3\%$, allergies), Basophils ($0.5-1\%$, histamine/heparin), Lymphocytes ($20-25\%$, B/T immunity), Monocytes ($6-8\%$).
  • Erythroblastosis Foetalis: Rh-negative mother carrying Rh-positive fetus. During 1st delivery, fetal Rh-antigens leak → mother makes anti-Rh antibodies. In 2nd Rh+ pregnancy, maternal antibodies cross placenta and destroy fetal RBCs, causing severe anemia and jaundice! Prevented by administering Anti-Rh antibodies (Rhogam) immediately after 1st birth!

2. The Pacemaker & Cardiac Cycle ($0.8\text{ s}$)

Heart is Myogenic (auto-excitable):
• SA Node (Sino-Atrial Node): Situated in right atrium; generates rhythmic action potentials ($70-75\text{ min}^{-1}$) — The Pacemaker!
• Impulse spreads to AV Node → Bundle of His → Purkinje Fibers, coordinating ventricular contraction.
• Cardiac Output ($CO$): $$\mathbf{CO = \text{Stroke Volume (SV)} \times \text{Heart Rate (HR)} = 70\text{ mL} \times 72\text{ bpm} \approx 5\text{ Litres/minute}!}$$

3. ECG Waves & Clinical Diagnostics

Standard Electrocardiogram (ECG) waveforms:
• P-wave: Depolarization (electrical excitation) of both atria → leading to atrial contraction.
• QRS Complex: Depolarization of ventricles (marks onset of ventricular systole). Counting QRS complexes per minute determines heart rate!
• T-wave: Repolarization (recovery) of ventricles back to resting state.

मूल वैचारिक स्पष्टता की जांच के लिए नैदानिक प्रश्न। पहले स्वयं हल करें, फिर उत्तर देखें।

1
Explain the phenomenon of 'Erythroblastosis Foetalis'. How can it be medically prevented?
उत्तर एवं व्याख्या देखें
उत्तर: Occurs when an $\text{Rh}^-$ mother carries an $\text{Rh}^+$ fetus. During the first delivery, fetal $\text{Rh}^+$ blood leaks into maternal circulation, inducing the mother to synthesize anti-Rh antibodies. In a subsequent pregnancy with an $\text{Rh}^+$ fetus, maternal anti-Rh IgG antibodies cross the placenta into fetal blood, destroying fetal red blood cells, causing fatal hemolytic anemia and jaundice. Prevention: Injecting the mother with anti-Rh antibodies (Rhogam) immediately following the delivery of the first child.
Rh- mother carrying Rh+ fetus; maternal antibodies destroy fetal RBCs in 2nd birth.
2
Describe the events of the Cardiac Cycle and calculate the duration of each phase in a normal heart.
उत्तर एवं व्याख्या देखें
उत्तर: Total duration of one cardiac cycle is $0.8\text{ seconds}$: (1) Joint Diastole ($0.4\text{ s}$): All four chambers are relaxed; tricuspid and bicuspid valves open, blood flows from atria into ventricles. (2) Atrial Systole ($0.1\text{ s}$): SA node fires, atria contract, increasing ventricular blood flow by 30%. (3) Ventricular Systole ($0.3\text{ s}$): Ventricles contract, AV valves close (1st heart sound 'LUBB'), semilunar valves open, blood pumped into aorta and pulmonary artery.
0.8 s total: Joint diastole (0.4 s), Atrial systole (0.1 s), Ventricular systole (0.3 s).
3
What is an Electrocardiogram (ECG)? What do the P-wave, QRS complex, and T-wave represent?
उत्तर एवं व्याख्या देखें
उत्तर: An ECG is a graphical representation of the electrical activity of the heart during a cardiac cycle: (1) P-wave represents the electrical depolarization of the atria leading to atrial contraction, (2) QRS complex represents the depolarization of the ventricles leading to ventricular contraction, (3) T-wave represents the repolarization (recovery) of the ventricles from excited to resting state.
P = Atrial depolarization, QRS = Ventricular depolarization, T = Ventricular repolarization.
4
Why is the SA Node called the 'Pacemaker' of the human heart?
उत्तर एवं व्याख्या देखें
उत्तर: Because the Sino-Atrial (SA) node possesses the highest intrinsic rate of generating auto-rhythmic action potentials ($70-75\text{ impulses/minute}$) without any external nervous stimulation, setting and pacing the rhythmic contractile cycle of the entire heart.
Generates maximum action potentials (72/min), dictating heart rhythm.
5
Differentiate between the First Heart Sound ('LUBB') and the Second Heart Sound ('DUBB').
उत्तर एवं व्याख्या देखें
उत्तर: (1) 'LUBB' is the first heart sound: low-pitched, longer duration, produced by the simultaneous closure of the tricuspid and bicuspid (mitral) valves at the onset of ventricular systole. (2) 'DUBB' is the second heart sound: higher-pitched, shorter duration, produced by the closure of the semilunar valves at the onset of ventricular diastole.
Closure of AV valves (LUBB) vs closure of semilunar valves (DUBB).
